He would do anything love!

Also known as “Loveloaf,” “Meatie,” and “Little Man,” meet Meatloaf – a 1.5 year-old Terrier mix who came into our program as scared and sensitive as they come. After a few weeks of socializing with staff, polishing up his confidence with playgroups, and sharing some much deserved park time, Meatie is finally ready to find his forever-home.

A timid boy at first, Meatloaf is looking for a gentle, patient owner with dog experience to help him out of his shell. He would benefit from another tolerant, mellow dog or cat friend as a playmate, however if you have a warm lap and a bit of chicken, “he would do anything love”!

Meet your Meatloaf today!

Meet Sweet-and-Sassy Cassie!

Mama Cass is one hot ticket! In addition to her shockingly sweet personality, Cassie’s the product of some fabulous genetics – likely of Ragdoll or Birman heritage – that resulted in her rare, blue tortie point coloration.

Arriving at Pets Unlimited with her sister Lilly, Cassie had no love lost during her transition from housecat to shelter cat, immediately soliciting affection from everyone in sight. Though she may not want pets ALL the time, she’s good at politely walking away instead of being fractious.

Cassie’s ideal home is one where she can be the only pet and where the household members teenaged and older love to practice their hairstyling skills!

Come find out what makes Mama Cass such a rockstar!

Make Some Music with Amadeus!

This handsome gent hails from Oakland Animal Services. Found as a stray hit by a car, Amadeus was in desperate need of medical care and a new lease on life.

A charming Schnauzer 3 years-young, Amadeus is looking for a home that includes lots of snuggles and playtime with his owners. And while he is practically perfect in every way, Amadeus prefers the company of people (even older kids!) to other furry creatures.

A good boy with much to offer, he hopes regular grooming, lots of low-key neighborhood walks, and plenty of movie nights on the sofa are in his near-future. If you’re ready to be rocked, meet Amadeus today!

Meet Our Weiner of a Dog, Quid!

This long, red gentleman is Quid, a 2 year-old Dachshund mix boy was found as a stray in San Martin. While working on his on-leash manners, Quid would love to find a forever home big on cuddling, fetch, socializing him to gentle strangers, and admiring those fabulous ears!

A playful guy once he’s warmed up, Quid could be a good addition for another active, rough & tumble doggie, but prefers the company of adults only while he is getting used to city life. Quid loves attention from the people he knows best and would benefit from positive shy dog classes to be at his very best.

If you are looking for a sensitive boy with a puppy heart, meet Quid!

Meet Our Mathematical Kitty Genius, Noether!

Enchanting little Noether does more than pose prettily for pictures. Sister to kittens Hypatia and Godel, Noether is also named after a mathematical genius (Emmy Noether, whom Einstein described as “the most important woman in the history of mathematics”).

She is likely an Oriental Shorthair mix, and she loves to have her sleek coat caressed and scratched after a good tumble with the toys. Polite and fairly temperate, Noether should go home with another kitten or young adult cat for companionship, and household members should be teenaged or older.

If you’re looking for the love theorem, Noether’s got your solution.

Who Can Resist An Underbite?

All it takes from this guy is a head-tilt and that underbite to get you on board. We joined the Euro fanclub quickly after his arrival from the San Martin Animal Shelter.

Euro is a 2 year old Dachshund mix who is long, low-ridin’, and a complete lovebug. We’re ready to pass on the craze to a forever-home that will return all the affection this pooch dishes out daily. Euro would flourish in a gentle, patient environment where he can learn some basic training and practice his canine social skills!

If you think you’re immune to the craze, think again! Scratch that itch and ask about Euro! He’s a handsome guy with a silly grin that’s sure to melt your heart!

From Abused to Beloved... Meet B.B.!

B.B. must have been born with a huge heart of gold. Transferred to Pets Unlimited from Animal Care & Control after winning her abuse case, B.B. has never held a grudge against other humans.

Currently living it up in our cat community room, B.B. thinks people and other cats are pretty cool, especially when it comes to playtime. You’ll fall for her at the sight of her perfect milk mustache that rounds out her formal tuxedo look.

B.B.’s hoping for a quieter home with parents who like to dote on their precious princess. She can tango with other animals, but doesn’t care for human rugrats around too much.

If you’re looking to show a kitty just how great life can be, B.B. awaits your visit.

Look at this face! Bonnie’s the sort of girl you’d knock a bank over for any day - and don’t let her age fool you, she’s more than up for the adventure!

This 6 years-young Chihuahua mix is full of energy, affection, and confidence. Lovely Bonnie will impress you with her spunky demeanor and snuggly side. While working on her leash manners she is certainly no slouch in the play department and could be a great addition for another matching canine.

Meet Playful Huntington Today!

Our Huntington is named after the beach, but as you can see from the picture, he could have been named for his enthusiastic playstyle.

There is so much energy and love in this one petite cat that it flows like a river to the delta of your heart. Easygoing and confident, Huntington would be the perfect companion to children of any age, who could pick him up, rub his belly, and generally be silly with him.

Since Huntington doesn’t have many personal boundaries, any dogs or other cats should be confident enough to keep him in check. If you want to be where the action is, make sure to be where Huntington’s at!

Meet Our Snuggle Bug, "Velcro" Vera!

We’re pleased to introduce you to Thelma, a 6 year-old Dachshund / Beagle mix who has made her way back into our facility after 5 years away.

Surrendered due to injuries sustained after a dog attacked her, Thelma has recovered and is ready to find her loving forever-home. While good with other dogs, Thelma would prefer to be the only canine love of your life as her confidence is still blossoming.

A “velcro-dog” with an affinity for snuggles, Thelma is an ideal dog for a retiree or stay-at-home family. A wonderfully sweet cuddlebug, her favorite things include hanging out in the office beanbag chair and walking through the park.

Meet Thelma today!

August 13, 2010

Meet Our Parlor Panther, Annika!

Annika isn’t just like any other black cat. She immediately dazzled staff with her exotic looks and exuberant personality.

Always vying for affection or play, Annika wasn’t sure how to navigate the other cats in the community room at first, but now she understands that she’s no longer living in a cat-eat-cat world and can relax with her new buddies.

Because of her round face, shorter snout, and sleek black coat, we think Annika might be a fancy Bombay mix. Annika would do well with rough and tumble teenagers or adults, other confident cats, or even a couple dogs.

Come fall in love with Annika so you can have your own “parlor panther”!

August 5, 2010

Meet the oh-so-adoptable Rosalind Today!

Soft and tender Rosalind hails from the not-so-far away land of Hayward. Once regarded as an unclaimed stray, this English cream Dachshund mix has since blossomed into a fair lady.

Rosalind is a gentle soul with a lot of energy, and would do well in an adult-only environment where she can work on building her doggy social skills - she’s a socialite-in-the-making! Rosalind is looking for a quiet, and loving household where she can go to doggy school, have park outings, and lots of lap time.

If you’re looking for a princess without the frill, a polite and spirited girl, Rosalind is patiently awaiting a visit from you.

Meet Cat-nik Dharma Today!

Whether it’s how she chirrups for love when she sees you; or her way of pushing into your body because she can’t possibly get close enough to you; or how she looks into your eyes so tenderly, 10 minutes with Dharma and you’ll find something to fall in love with.

Returning to our shelter after a decade away, our beatnik Dharma decided she needed to meditate and spread the love more. She’s not sensitive about her body image and loves to have every inch tickled, so quiet kids would make perfect yoga buddies. Dharma has a history of living peacefully with other cat-niks, and could dig other small animals, too.

Sound like a soulmate? That’s just “Some of the Dharma.” Come meet all of her today!

Make Contact with Mork & Mindy Today!

These vivacious characters came to us from Stanislaus County as a brother and sister super team. Bonded buddies, Mork & Mindy are a pair of Cocker Spaniels- aged 4 & 3 years- who enjoy quiet playtime and leisurely strolls through the neighborhood.

While Mork enjoys meeting and greeting fellow dogs, Mindy prefers her brother’s company over other pawed pals. Their pleasant, clownish dispositions shine while hanging out with familiar, gentle faces. These snuggle buddies are looking for a mellow, adult-only home where they can be the stars of the show.

If you’re looking for some cuddly companions, teleport on over and make contact with Mork & Mindy!

Meet our prize-winning cuddler, Agatha!

Dainty and darling, our friend Agatha hails from Fremont where she was found as a stray and never claimed. This beautiful little 8 years-young Rat Terrier mix specializes in warming laps, hearts, and being rather jaunty on her walks through the neighborhood.

A petite princess, Agatha is tolerant of both dogs and cats, but asks for a teens-and-up home as she can be a bit shy with handling before she knows you. This joyful gal would love to show off her fabulous leash skills and laid-back demeanor to her forever-home, so if you are looking for a dog that’s easy like Sunday morning and likes to sleep in by your side, meet the amazing Agatha today!

Say “Hy!” to Hyacinth!

This sweet lady has been feeling a little blue. Somehow our visitors keep walking past her beautiful, soft fur and playful antics. She's here to say that enough is enough!

While you pass through her alley, she watches your every move for a hint that you’ll come love her. She hurries down from “hy” in her cat tree to greet you by flirtatiously flicking her fluffy tail, pressing herself provocatively against you, and rolling over to show off her big belly. Having won your heart, she indulges in your attention, getting “hy” on love. If she’s feeling HYper when you’re not about, she’ll amuse herself by chasing her toys around.

Lady Hyacinth would like to be your one and only flower, but she wouldn’t mind having kids in the house to amuse and love her. If you’re looking to cultivate your own cat garden, find out if Hyacinth will fit in your flower bed.

Casey Jones Has A Pool!

Do you remember Casey Jones, our lovable Cocker Spaniel pup? I mean, how could you forget that mug?

Well, we're pleased as punch that Casey's new mom, Savannah, sent us an update on his new life. With a spunky new 'do and regular brushing, we hardly recognize our sweet ragamuffin!

"Savannah and Casey Jones here! Just a note to check in and give you guys an update on our progress. We have moved into a new home, with a pool! Casey seems to have no interest in the water and does not enjoy his bath, but he has made tentative friends with the tailless lizard in the backyard that obviously has tangled with dogs in the past and is not about to give an inch, which probably explains his not having a tail!

Casey's hair is fully grown out and he has come to love his nightly combing sessions, it puts him to sleep in mommy's lap. He is so beautiful, though if I don't pull his hair back, it gets in his eyes. I get a lot of jokes about the hair doo dad but he doesn't mind it too bad and at least he can see!"

"He is my almost constant companion and we have grown very close. He is a happy, smiling, running, jumping and even barking little dog now! He goes everywhere I go, including work sometimes when I just can't bear to leave him! We go to the redwood forest, the park, the beach, the river and we want to come over into the city for a visit soon!

He is SO loved. I think he has finally figured out that he's the lucky dog!"

Whistler's Fairytail Ending

We just received a wonderful update from Whistler's adoptive family! In case you forgot how cute this little guy is, scroll down to see his new photos and progress report.

"I hope you are well. Just wanted to give you an update on little Whistler and send you some cute pictures of him. Whistler loves his new home and fenced-in yard, where he can run around and bury his bones! He loves to play with his favorite toy (purple fleece platypus) and cuddle on our laps. He is such an affectionate dog and makes all our visitors, young or old, smile. He just graduated from a 5-week small dog training class held at the Marin Humane Society and learned how to sit, lay down and jump and touch your hand -- not bad for a 5- year old!! We are now ready to take a tricks class, which should be fun for all of us."

"Anyway, I'm sure you can tell that we just adore the little guy, and I wanted to thank everyone at Pets Unlimited for bringing such a sweetie into our lives."

If that isn't a Fairytail Ending, I don't know what is! Visit our Adoption Center to begin your very own fairytail ending.

She's sweet AND healthy... Meet Turnip!

Sauteed turnips at the restaurant are yummy. Turnip cake and Dim Sum are tasty as well. But Turnip the 4-year-old calico sweetie is even better.

As she sits in her perch, she calls to you with her beautiful hazel eyes. When you enter, she automatically plops herself into your lap. Then she purrs, snuggles, and dozes, wishing that you’ll never stand up so she can perpetually cuddle you to sleep. She might need some help from humans to preserve her scintillating calico pelt.

Turnip is a happy-go-lucky girl who is ready to go home to young kids and/or dogs in virtually any home atmosphere. She’s a perfect kitty for first time owners, but she’s not sure if she’d like to share her home with another feline.

So if you know exactly which veggie you want, come in and visit Turnip!

Pandora’s attitude has never faltered, and she is looking for a home with love to give - dogs, cats, and kids applicable! This gentle soul is a dream, and would love to finally find her forever-home.

Do you appreciate the finer things in life?

Do you have a habit of catering your life to your cat’s every whim? Do you appreciate the finer things in life? Then perhaps you are Azura’s perfect person.

A gorgeous Ragdoll, Azura was recently returned to Pets because her luxurious fur was contributing to her owner’s allergies for four years! The change startled Azura, to say the least, but she is now relaxed enough to enjoy most of the affection people lavish upon her and the toys they offer. Still, Azura’s strong will means that everything happens on her terms.

If you’re looking for that shining star to revolve your world around, gravitate towards the shelter and find an Azura supernova!

Meet Handsome and Hunky Gryphon!

This handsome hunk of a Boston Terrier is five year-old Gryphon, a very sweet boy who was surrendered at Hayward Animal Shelter due to a degenerative eye condition. And while Gryph does have some cloudiness, rest assured that after being checked out by our excellent physicians, he certainly is not blind and will not be for quite some time.

Gryphon is a sweet, playful boy who comes with a great deal of basic manners training and leash skills. While he does not like every rowdy pup that comes his way, Gryph loves mellow dogs like him. He is looking for an adults only family to give him his second chance at forever.

Come in and meet gracious Gryphon today!

April 2, 2010

Meet Our Newest Tripawd, Bijou!

Can you spot what’s missing in this picture? It’s one of Bijou’s front legs! This gorgeous gal came to Pets Unlimited from Kings County where she was found as a stray with a poorly healed fracture that necessitated the amputation of her leg.

Though she’s still adjusting to three-legged life, Bijou hasn’t lost any of her affection for people. A sucker for cheek rubs, Bijou also enjoys her luxurious, dilute calico coat being brushed.

Still a young girl, Bijou will probably pick up the pace once she figures out how to hunt toys one-handed. At this point she’d prefer a home with family members teenaged and older, and she’d like to be the only furry jewel in your home. Looking for a rare gem?

Come meet Bijou!

That's Bode (Bo-dee) to You!

Sweet, petite, with a little sass thrown in – meet Bode, a 3 year-old Chihuahua mix from San Martin Animal Shelter.

Bode may be teeny, but his lack of stature is made up for in personality! A sweet, guy, Bode is in training to get his doggie social skills back in order as he can be picky about the furry friends he keeps. But never fear – the right small dog and patient family could make this little Napoleon see the err of his ways quite quickly, as we have seen him shine in our playgroups at the shelter.

Bode’s ideal home is one that will help him through his socially awkward ways as well as give him lots of cuddle time! If it sounds like true love, meet Bode!

A Day in the Life of Tabitha

It’s difficult to take one stellar picture of Tabitha when her favorite pastime is nestling under your shoulder, so we chose four. Each day Tabitha surprises us with more adorableness; most recently she’s discovered the joys of snuggling under covers. Other bedroom habits include gentle spooning, exuberant purring, and hardcore cuddling.

Her kitchen skills are also amazing, and of course she specializes in biscuit making. Talented Tabitha would like a very quiet home where she can continue to explore her many domestic interests in a cat-, kid-, and dog-free environment.

If you’re looking for a mellow cat who will cuddle with you to the end of time, Tabitha would like the rest of her eternity to start with you.

Homeward Bound: From Kumquat to Otis

Otis (formerly Kumquat) has grown leaps and bounds over the past few weeks. He is extremely smart and had learned his basic training in a matter of days, plus a few more tricks like "shake" and "bed".

He came in weak from his ear surgery and sick from all his medication but he was a trooper. Today, he is a happy-go-lucky dog and has even made friends with his brother cat, Rocko.

He has some separation anxiety but we are working on it. He is growing more independent every day because he is picking up the message that we will always come back.

He is becoming a confident dog with lots of personality. His favorite hobbies include solving treat puzzles, fetching his toys, and going on walks around the city.

Otis says "hi" to all his old friends at Pets Unlimited!

Would you like to play Peek-a-boo with Picabo?

A gentle soul looking for the same in a human, meet Picabo – a 1.5 year-old Labrador / Border Collie Mix from San Martin Animal Shelter.

Originally found as a stray by a good Samaritan, Picabo is sweet but sensitive, and is still acclimating to the crazy city around her. Picabo’s ideal home would be adults only, ready to work on her under-socialization with other dogs, and loves the idea of a jogging or hiking companion. This docile lady needs stability and kindness more than anything, and we know that once she meets her human match, they will soon be inseparable.

If you are looking for a devoted kind of love, look no further than our beloved Picabo.

Magpie's Fairytail Ending

Dear Pets Unlimited and Shannon especially,

We are so happy we found our cat at Pets Unlimited. When we first met Lark, she was a bit shy, but she had too much energy to stay hidden for long and would come out to play and be petted.

When we took her home with us, she really blossomed into a fun, playful and sweet little cat. Six and a half pounds full grown, she has the energy of three kittens packed in her little frame. She is a ball of energy and LOVES to play. She chases her tail, sometimes jumping in the air and spinning 180 degrees trying to catch it! Her other activities include chasing toy mice, playing ping-pong ball soccer, sleeping in our laps, and greeting us when we come home.

She is very dog-like in a good way. I can't imagine a better match for our household. We are so fortunate to have found the perfect cat at Pets Unlimited. Her new name is Magpie, but we usually call her Maggie. The name suits her perfectly: she is sweet and sassy and gives us so much happiness every day.

Thank you so much,
Tom and Karen

Go on an adventure with Huckleberry!

This sturdy hunk of a dog is Huckleberry, a three year-old Labrador Retriever mix from San Martin Animal Shelter.

Found running down a highway in the area by a good Samaritan, Huckleberry is understandably still reeling from the experience and is looking for an adults-only home with space in their hearts for this sometimes-nervous big boy. A well-muscled adolescent, Huck is still working on his doggie social skills and prefers a long jog around the Presidio instead of the dog park any day.

An excellent companion, a certified cuddle-bug, and a five-star athlete, Huckleberry is ready to find his forever-home – could it be with you? Meet Huck today!

Mark Your Calendars for Josephine's Ninth Adoption-versary!

Josephine was adopted on May 22, 2001 from Pets Unlimited where she was known as "Meow Meow". She was a roommate of Elmo, a black and white cat.

When I adopted her the staff would tell stories of her never being quiet, so they would let her run around and play with Astro, a pit bull that came to the shelter. Josephine is now 9 years old, but still plays like a kitten. She loves her laser pointer, mice or "rat finks" and even a paper bag still serves hours of entertainment.

She is still temperamental and runs the house, but ultimately a love. She has had quite an adventure moving from the Bay Area to San Diego and back to Chico where she currently resides. She is an amazing part of my life and I feel many times that she picked me rather then the other way around.

Thank you Pets Unlimited for the opportunity to make Josephine a part of my family.

Meet Our Trio of FIV+ Kitties

Evan is a special cat in so many ways. First, we think he’s a fancy breed called a Turkish Van. Second, his orange markings are interspersed with brown tabby stripes. Third, he’s a talkative Cuddle Master of the First Order. And finally, he was born cryptorchid, so one of his “bits” never descended and he’s lived most of his life only semi-neutered. As a result, he’s got testosterone-fueled muscles in his cheeks and neck, and the extra hormones led to roaming outdoors, which in turn caused him to get FIV. Now that he really IS neutered, he’s ready for an affection-filled family, especially if there are kids or a dog at home.

Just like her darling and sometimes misunderstood namesake, Panda is not what you’d expect. She’s an independent spirit, but by no means antisocial. She doesn’t solicit petting, but she’ll roll over for belly rubs once you get going. She doesn’t run around her condo like it’s the Grand Prix, but she loves a good interactive toy. Panda would be the perfect companion for someone who wants an affectionate cat who isn’t needy and an animated cat who isn’t overly athletic. Her FIV+ status means she needs to be an only cat or with other FIV+ cats, but she’d surely adapt to a dog or children in the house. You’re home is the real natural habitat for Panda!

Our Meerkat pops out of her tree when you least expect it, just like a real meerkat out of the ground! Originally from North Carolina, she made the near-3,000-mile trip after her owners abandoned her and the saintly upstairs neighbor flew her out here to find her new, lifelong home. Some people meet Meerkat and think she’s shy, but she’s really just reserved. She’s always ready for lots of petting, and she loves to snag that string toy when you float it her way. As an FIV+ cat, Meerkat would need to be an only feline or have other FIV+ buddies. She seems to enjoy children, and she’s confident enough to handle a cat-savvy dog. If you’re looking for a quiet, lapwarming cat, give Meerkat a try!

90% of cats that test positive for FIV lead long, healthy lives when they live in homes where they're well loved and well cared for. We hope that you'll give one of these special kitties a chance at a forever home!

You Say Toma-toe, I Say Toma-toh

Cuteness + floppy ears & paws + smartypants = Tomato! This sweet, bouncy Rhodesian Ridgeback mix girl is three-month old Tomato!

Quirky, hilarious, and full of puppy love, Tomato came to us from San Martin Animal Shelter and sprang her way (very quickly) into our hearts. Ready to ketch-up on all she missed out on, Tomato would love a new home ready for puppy classes, socialization, and all the trimmings of puppyhood. A spry & exhuberant player, she could even go home with an active dog or cat that has had doggie experience!

If you are looking for a puppy that will be at the head of her class, meet Tomato today!

And, if you're planning on being in the neighborhood this weekend, stop by our Valentine's Day Bake Sale and bring home something sweet for friends and family!

Meet Our Apartment-Sized Panda

Just like her darling and sometimes misunderstood namesake, Panda is not what you’d expect.

Meet Easy-on-the-Heart Butters

Dainty, bashful, with an underbite only a mother could love, meet Butters – a 3 year-old Terrier Mix from San Martin Animal Shelter.

Found as a stray wandering alone in a park, Butters is a sensitive boy who is looking for a mellow adults-only home for him to be the only dog (cats possible!). While he is working on his leash skills, this petite little man wants an owner who doesn’t mind a dog beneath their feet, as he is quite clingy once he decides you’re his!

Lovable Butters has been through a lot and needs a warm, gentle environment to be at his most confident. If you think you’re the one to show him the world, come meet beautiful Butters today!

Let Atlas Take You to the Road of Happiness

While he never chose a side in the War of the Titans, shelter life makes Atlas feel the weight of the world on his shoulders. The strange sounds and smells here have led an otherwise confident, playful cat to be a little wary about his small universe.

But oh the joy he feels when he pushes his cheek against your hand and finds the best spot on your lap! And what he wouldn’t give to chase heavenly spheres all day long!

Atlas is confident enough to handle a dog at home, and could even be a buddy to the right cat. He’d like to live with adults only, though, since he doesn’t much like poking and groping.

If you’re looking for the road to happiness, just find our Atlas.
